Best Hotels in Lisbon For Every Budget
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, has experienced remarkable tourism growth over the past decade, becoming one of Europe’s top destinations.
Luckily, the city has a vast array and variety of accommodations for visitors on all budgets, but it can be challenging and time consuming to find the perfect hotel for your stay.
Though I have spent pretty extensive time in Lisbon, I have only spent a few nights in hotels and guest houses. I have visited several of their bars, restaurants, pools and spas though.
While I have not had too many overnight stays, I am fortunate enough to have ties to some top-rated local guides, residents, and many visitors who I polled for the best hotels in Lisbon.
This list is the hotels that came up most frequently and were recommended by numerous guides, and Lisbon insiders, as well as hotels friends have stayed in on their visits to Portugal’s capital city.
Taxes & ID
For all hotel and Short-Term Rentals in Porto
A tax is imposed by the city: EUR 4.00 per person, per night, up to 7 nights.
This tax does not apply to children under 13 years of age.
It is often collected in cash at the beginning or end of your stay (sometimes it is included in the booking for hotels).
Passport information is required for all non-Portuguese residents staying in hotels and Short-Term Rentals. At hotels, a copy of each guest’s passport will be taken at check in. Often, short term rentals (ie: Airbnb, VRBO, etc) will request a copy be sent prior to your stay.
This is legally required by the Portuguese government to register all foreign guests.

One of the most recommended budget friendly hotels in Lisbon, Brown’s Central gives a higher-end feel while still being in the “budget” category. Think “upscale hostel without the dorms or shared bathrooms”. This boho hotel, located near Lisbon’s Time Out Market, is a great option for travelers on a budget, families or groups (with rooms sleeping up to 6) and visitors looking to a comfortable hotel with lots of opportunity to socialize in fun common spaces.
My friends and I got a room here on a hot summer day to use the pool and common spaces and it was the perfect day! The rooftop is the perfect place to relax and unwind with a casual vibe.
