Lisbon Christmas Markets

While they may not be the same caliber of renowned European Christmas markets, Lisbon Christmas are still well worth attending. They have a casual, friendly feel to them, and appeal to visitors of all ages.

With endless vendor stalls and traditional Portuguese food and drinks, this is a great way to try local fare while surrounded by holiday charm. Here, you will also find local handmade and traditional crafts and souvenirs to take home and enjoy for years to come. Or, you can just stroll through Lisbon’s Christmas markets and take in all the sounds, smells and charm of Europe at Christmas time.

Christmas Market at Rossio Square

🗺️Praça Dom Pedro IV, 1100-193 Lisboa

🕰️Sun-Thurs 10a-10p, Fri-Sat 10a-11p

📆15 November - 22 December

Featuring over 70 vendors selling everything from traditional pastries, meats, cheeses, sangria (hot and cold), dried fruits, nuts and candies, crafts and gifts, and so much more, Rossio is the most famous Christmas in Lisbon.

It also features holiday displays and a huge Christmas tree and has an overall festive and joyful feel.

Adding to this festive feel is the Holiday Train that boards in Rossio Sqaure and runs through Baixa (free of charge).

Baixa Market in Praça da Figueira

Figueira Christmas Gourmet is back at Praça da Figueira, in downtown Lisbon, for its 12th edition, in what promises to be a unique gastronomic experience full of novelties.

🗺️Praça da Figueira, 1100-240 Lisboa

🕰️Daily 10a-10p

📆15 November-22 December 2025

Just steps away from Rossio Christmas Market is Baixa Market in Praça da Figueira.

With seemingly endless stalls and food vendors, chef showcases, and sweet treats to your heart’s desire, this market combines my two favorite things: food and holiday cheer.

There is also no shortage of wine, sangria and ginja.

All of this can be enjoyed in the large tent in the center of the market which is a great place to meet and chat with fellow travelers, locals, and food enthusiasts.

Campo Pequeno Christmas Market

🗺️Campo Pequeno, 1000-082 Lisboa

🕰️Daily 11a-9p

📆28 November - 1 December, 5 December - 8 December 2025

💶2€ entry (1€ refunded with 10€ purchase)

A bit outside the main touristic areas of Lisbon, Campo Pequeno boasts a beautiful large Christmas market with over 150 vendor stalls. There are elaborate light displays and, while Campo Pequeno is stunning on its own, it is really magical adorned in lights.

Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

🗺️R. de São Pedro de Alcântara, 1200-470 Lisboa

While this market is much smaller compared to others, it is always a fun and cheerful vibe with delicious bites and plentiful drinks. It has a festive and lowkey feel with street performers, giant bubbles, and artisans selling jewelry and art.

It is the perfect place to enjoy some holiday cheer and take in incredible views.

Alvalade Christmas Market

🗺️Av. da Igreja

📆 30 Nov - 11 Dec, 2025

The Christmas Market in Alvalade stands out above all for its excellent organization by the local parish council and is characterized by creating a very family-friendly atmosphere, where there is no shortage of reasons to stop by, from the lighting and decoration of the streets, the 50 wooden houses with handicrafts, the gastronomy on offer typical of this time of year and, of course, lots of street entertainment, where Santa Claus is, of course, the main figure of the party. - Lisboa Secreta

I have somehow not made it to this local Lisbon Christmas Market, which is entering its 11th year in 2025. But, that will change in about a month!

I am so excited to visit this Lisbon Christmas market because it is widely acclaimed for its food vendors, entertainment and just overall cheerful vibe. There are scheduled holiday events and performances for kids and adults alike and I have been told it is not to be missed for local Lisbon holiday charm.

Grande Arraial do Lumiar - Christmas Edition

🗺️Jardim Caldeira Cabral, in Telheiras

📆6 Dec - 29 Dec 2025

I love Grande Arraial do Lumiar any time there is an event here. It has a great local vibe with its food stalls, kid’s rides, vendors, and drink stands giving it a bit of a carnival atmosphere, so I am super excited to check out the 2nd annual Christmas edition in 2025!

The location is a bit outside or the main tourist area in Lisbon but is directly off of a metro or a quick Bolt or Uber ride away (there is no designated parking, and it is a residential area, so I don’t recommend driving).

This is a great event for both kids and adults, especially those looking for some tasty, traditional food and drinks.

Lisbon Holiday Lights and Displays

Armazéns do Chiado

Armazéns do Chiado is made up of reunions. In the year in which we celebrate 25 years of history, we want to remember how it all began. We remember the past, celebrate the present and keep our eyes on the future, because we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone if innovation wasn’t present in the shopping center’s daily life. And the proof of this is the very show we’re going to present, based on pioneering technology in Portugal – LED Mapping – which will take us on an exciting journey into the past.”

-Ricardo Esteves, Director of Armazéns do Chiado

🗺️Rua do Carmo 2 (Chiado)

🕰️The visual and sound show will last 20 minutes and will be played at three different times, allowing more people to attend these celebrations:

Daily at 6:30p, 7:30p and 8:30p

📆2025 dates: TBD

Armazéns do Chiado never fails to put up a beautiful holiday display, but 2024 is a truly special time to see the display as it is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the shopping center.

This will also be the first time that this LED mapping technology has been used in Portugal, allowing a visualization of the 25-year history of this Lisbon shopping center, where there will be no shortage of significant moments such as the Chiado fire in 1988 and, of course, the respective reconstruction and revitalization of this shopping area.

There is not yet a date for the Christmas lights in Lisbon to be turned on, but they are always inaugurated the last week of November (updated information will be provided when available). As is tradition, in Praça do Comércio, the giant Christmas tree will be lit at 6:30pm, with lots of music and fun.

This will also correspond with the lights throughout the city coming on and illuminating some of Lisbon’s most famous streets.

Lisbon Christmas Tree in Praça do Comércio

Lisbon boasts a remarkable Christmas tree that captures the hearts of both residents and visitors—the tallest Christmas tree in Europe, proudly standing at a soaring height of 76 meters in the iconic Commerce Square

🗺️1100-148 Lisbon

2025 Date: TBD

The 76 meter Lisbon Christmas tree is a sight to behold, surrounded by the iconic yellow buildings of the Commerce Square.

The tree is an interactive experience and can experienced from the outside, or by walking underneath it for a unique vantage point to the lights and structure.

The lighting of the tree on (unreleased date 2025) also signifies the turning on of all the lights throughout Lisbon. The tree lighting is a whole event with traditional Portuguese singers and performers.

Praça Luís de Camões

🗺️Largo Luís de Camões, 1200-243 Lisboa

Featuring a different display each year, Praça Luís de Camões, is the perfect setting for Lisbon holiday magic with the addition of antique trolleys passing by, vendors selling traditional pastries, hot chocolate and wine, and street performers singing holiday tunes.

Looking to see Santa in Lisbon? He is known to make appearances here and will happily pose for pictures (happily accepting tips, but not demanding them).

This central square is a great place to get some festive photos, listen to some music, grab a sweet treat and just enjoy some holiday merriment.

Best Holiday Street Lights in Lisbon

Any visit during holiday season in Lisbon will have you surrounded by holiday cheer and magical light displays will be found throughout the city. The most spectacular Lisbon light displays can be found in the Chiado and Baixa neighborhoods with Rua do Carmo, Rua Augusta, Rua Garrett featuring the most interactive and ornate of all of

Avenida da Liberdade

One of the most beautiful streets in Lisbon, Av da Liberdade, becomes even more spectacular when it is aglow with holiday lights.

The Avenue is adorned with lights from Rossio Square leading up to Parque Eduardo VII, where you will find Wonderland Lisboa.

With its wide sidewalks, and mostly flat terrain, it is a beautiful Avenue to stroll in the evening and take in all the lights and store window displays.

Rua do Carmo

The lights on Lisbon’s Rua do Carmo are more than a display, they are a whole experience. Set to music, the lights “dance” at different times throughout the night and bring the whole street to life from above.

If you are in Lisbon for the inauguration of the Christmas lights, this is a great place to join the crowd and watch the streets become aglow with holiday magic.

⭐Pro tip - the lights stay on quite late, so if you are looking for a crowd-free photo-op, head to Rua do Carmo between 10pm and 11pm and get those snaps! It’s a pedestrian street, so no cars to worry about.

Rua Augusta

It is nearly impossible not to find yourself on Rua Augusta on any trip to Lisbon, and while it is always beautiful and full of life, it is especially radiant when draped in holiday lights.

The street, from Rossio Square to Arco da Rua Augusta is decked out in a new theme every year and never disappoints. Grab a hot chocolate (or sangria) from the Rosio Christmas Market and take a stroll down this magical street to take in the Christmas tree in Praça do Comércio.

Rua Garrett

The street spanning from Praça Luís de Camões to Armazéns do Chiado is sheer holiday magic, with the lights, street performers, beautifully decorated old historic building and churches and just overall festive and merry vibe.

This is where you will find some of the best street performers in Lisbon. Each night, across from the Statue of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa outside the famous Café A Brasileira in Lisbon, you will find a local performer singing, dancing, doing magic, or comedy.

The buskers are especially good during the holiday season and draw significant crowds.
